Our Keres language holds the deep meaning and purpose of our core values. It describes and interprets our world.
It is being lost.
Today the largest percent (62%) of our Laguna population is between 0-35 years of age.
The Laguna Community Foundation has begun to bring our community together to develop a Laguna Language Policy for Tribal Council consideration. Funded initially by a grant from the Indian Education Division of the New Mexico Public Education Department, we are engaging the entire community in facilitated conversations regarding language loss to develop a long term plan to sustain our language for generations to come.
Together we hope to find sensible and sensitive ways to creatively utilize the technologies that we use every day to help us teach, learn and experience our beautiful Keres language.
